Greek Fest, LLC will present its Annual Step Show, on Saturday April 25, 2009 at Tulane University McAlister Auditorium. Greek Fest, LLC will also sponsor a mentorship program, Life After High School, for high school juniors and seniors. This program is designed to expose high school students to college life and encourage them to pursue a degree at a higher education institution. This program is an effort to combat against the number of crimes being committed by individuals as young as 15. Greek Fest believes this problem is fueled by two things: lack of education and lack of role models in those communities. Life After High School is a year-long program that provides the youth of New Orleans with an alternative to the music, movies and videos that promote and expose our youths to sex and violence. Greek Fest, LLC will pair students with a mentor, who is responsible for assisting students in:
* College Application Process
* Selection of College
* Setting Career Goals
* Making Satisfactory Progress in High School Courses
* Making Healthy Choices About Day-to-Day Life
* Problems at School
* Explore Career Options by Visiting Mentor's Place of Employment
* Explore College Campus by Arranging Visits to Colleges or Universities
The step show will include a program dedicated to students seeking information about higher education institutions. Students will attend a seminar on financing their college education and the college admissions process. Representatives from universities and colleges will be on hand to discuss their respective institution's degree offerings and any questions students will have about the admissions process. The final facet of the program will consist of the step show. The step show will allow students to experience one of the many positive aspects of attending college and the chance to interact with current college students and professionals. This event will create an atmosphere that promotes education, non-violence, and clear alternatives to deviant behavior.
Greek Fest, LLC believes that higher education prepares students for a better life. This belief feeds their passion for helping students discover their potential and plan for their future. |
